ETIENNE GROS

Born in Saint-Dié des Vosges on 20 March 1962.
Etienne Gros studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he attended the workshops of Olivier Debré and Vélicovic. For more than 30 years, he has participated in several exhibitions and has exhibited in several galleries in France and abroad.

The Smoke
It is the carbon deposit of a flame that gives “body” to what Etienne Gros has called “the fumes”.
He can use the flame of a candle or an oil lamp. In an unpredictable way, with an extreme lightness and softness but also a great fragility, forms will be deposited on the white sheet of paper. No brushes, pencils or anything else that might resemble the painter’s accessories are used. He draws with the wisps of smoke and lets himself be amazed by the randomness that the flame offers him.
Like Aladdin, he releases the genies of his lamps and takes us far, far away, into an ancestral world.
