FRANCIS GUERRIER
Born in 1964 in Marseille, grandson of the painter Francis Montanier, son of the painter Raymond Guerrier and the ceramist Francesca Guerrier, I live and work today in Eygalières. For twenty years I worked as a decorator and scenographer for events, theatre, dance, opera and music. Since 2002, I have devoted myself to sculpture. My first pieces on memory integrate light and image. In 2005, I chose monumental steel sculpture. I also work with aluminium with my “Plumes d’Ange” (Angel feathers), 8 to 15 metres long, mounted on springs and mobile in the wind.
Today, my work with metal still consists of the creation of flat sheets that I cut out but above all that I bend along curved lines. It is the metal which, through its own energy, spring and resistance, shapes itself and creates the volume. After having imagined complex forms often based on the spiral, today in search of original forms, my latest pieces are inspired by the moon, by the sky descending to earth.
